Barefoot Training Workshop for Category 1: Construction Techniques
Village Allah Deeno 2 or Sutho jo Goth
The first training workshop for Category 1 regarding Construction Techniques was conducted between 5-9th February 2019 at ZC3, Makli. Altogether 38 participants from village Allah Deeno 2 participated comprising 25 women, 13 youth and 10 people with disabilities. Some women brought their babies with them along with several children who could not be left at home. They were all accommodated, since this is the only way we can encourage women to participate in learning activities.

On 30th -31st January, at ZC3. Altogether 14 master trainers attended the workshop. The MTs, who had been trained over several years by HF, belonged to villages in Mirpur Khas, TandoAllahyar and Makli itself.
The trainers for the workshop were Ar. Yasmeen Lari and Mr. Naheem Shah who were assisted by supervisors Ms. Moomal Memon, Mr. Ali Brohi, Mr. Munawwar and Mr. Abdul Haque.

In pursuance to the Hon’ble Supreme Court orders to reclaim the glory of the city of Karachi and to regulate further development, a meeting was held by Chief Secretary, Government of Sindh at Sindh Secretariat on Thursday, 31st January, 2019. The meeting was attended by several eminent architects and urban planners as well as top government officials for a full day session of discussions for working out a way forward.
Ar. Yasmeen Lari, as CEO, Heritage Foundation of Pakistan made a presentation on the vision for Karachi: “A 21st century megacity steeped in its 19thc. historic past, incorporating low carbon, climate smart, people-friendly, walkable green urbanism.”

On 27th January 2018, at ZC3, the first assembly under the Makli Livelihoods Initiative (a collaborative effort of British Council/Heritage Foundation of Pakistan/and Glasgow University was held.
Also, Mr. Rizwan, head of Dewa Academy for the disabled examined several of the villagers who were suffering from various disabilities. It was decided that a survey of children with disabilities should be carried. There may be a need to work out how to help all those including children in order to mitigate their suffering.

Heritage Foundation of Pakistan Karachi Centre and ZC3 at Makli were honoured by visits of Ms. Nao Hayashi (UNESCO Program Officer, Paris World Heritage Centre) and Dr. Jonathan Bell (ICOMOS consultant) and Mr. Jawad Aziz, Culture Specialist UNESCO Islamabad) who were on a mission to evaluate the status of the condition of Makli World Heritage Site.
