Celebrating community progress in Kharadar! The inauguration of the Kharadar Police Chowki library and community garden marks a milestone in neighborhood revitalization. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of DC South Karachi and Heritage Foundation, a cherished heritage site now serves as a vibrant library, while a new community garden blooms where community spirit thrives.
The dilapidated structure, located on Paria Street near Wazir Mansion and the historic Kharadar Chowk, was part of the Old Town Heritage Trail. The project involved designing a terracotta paved entry court, a terracotta pathway, and a zero carbon bamboo garden pavilion. However, the community felt helpless and encroached on the chowki. Despite a written undertaking, the qabza group did not remove the illegal basement structure and paid only partly for the restoration. The project was completed using the Foundation’s reserves and funds raised from well-wishers.

Dr Yasmeen Lari designed and proposed a 13-segment trail from Denso Hall to Custom House, each segment named after prominent historic buildings. The trail aimed to decarbonize and green Karachi, mitigating climate change impact. However, state funding was limited, yet the project was initiated in January 2020 and first segment was completed in 2021. Architects from Nyami Studio in UK arrive in Pono Village for a second time to build a school using bamboo, based on their design. Their first visit was in December 2023. Here they are inspecting the structure under construction for the upcoming Pakistan Exhibition in Qatar.
